NAPERVILLE, IL - Americans for Prosperity Illinois is calling on members of the Kane County Board to reject Finance Committee Chairman Jim Mitchell?s (R-North Aurora) plan to raise the property tax levy by the maximum amount allowed by state law, in part, to fund government worker raises.
?Illinois taxes are already sky-high and real estate values are in the tank. This is an irresponsible and unnecessary assault on Kane County taxpayers,? said AFP-Illinois State Director David From. ?Kane County has shown the ability to freeze salaries and cut costs in the past and the board has to stick to that course of action.?
Americans for Prosperity is calling on members of the county board to reject Mitchell?s proposal when it comes up for a vote later this month. ?Taxpayers should be outraged by this tax grab,? said From. ?It is especially troubling that Mitchell is trying to slide this levy increase through before a new chairman enters office in December.?
AFP is urging its grassroots network of activists in Kane County to contact their board member and let them know that they do not support an increase in their property taxes in the midst of the severe real estate downturn.
?It is disappointing but all too common that elected officials give in so easily to the lure of tax increases to fund expanded government,? said From. ?We need to send a clear message to Mr. Mitchell and his political allies that AFP will not sit by when they try to increase the financial burden on local property owners.?
