Dalai Lama Speaks at University of Portland Interfaith Dialogue



Portland, OR - The Dalai Lama attended an interfaith dialogue at the University of Portland on Thursday. Accented by a purple Portland Pilots visor, the 14th Dalai Lama spoke before a sold-out crowd;

"What is the purpose of these different religious traditions? Simply a different method to strengthening these basic message, message of love, compassion, these things. So therefore, the variety of human being, different way for approach yes? Very necessary."

The dialogue with the spiritual leader of Tibet also included UP President - Rev. William Beauchamp, Rabbi Michael KUH-HAH-NUH of Congregation Beth Israel of Portland, Imam Muhammed Najieb of the Muslim Community Center of Portland, and Grandmother Agnes Baker - Pilgrim from the Confederated Tribes of Siletz.

University of Portland officials said the show's profit of 200-thousand dollars would be offered as customary to? the office of Tibet.
